Slab Foundation Home Termite Treatment — Subterranean Access Through Concrete
Slab foundation homes have lower subterranean termite risk than raised foundation homes, but they're not immune. Termites access slab-on-grade structures through concrete cracks, plumbing penetrations, and the foundation perimeter.
Subterranean termites can enter slab foundation homes through cracks in the concrete slab (common in older construction and in areas with clay soil movement), around plumbing pipes that penetrate the slab, and through the gap between the exterior slab edge and adjacent soil.
The first indication of subterranean activity in a slab home is often mud tubes on the interior wall near a plumbing penetration, or on the exterior foundation wall where soil meets the structure. These are access point indicators.
Termidor treatment for slab foundations involves trenching along the exterior foundation perimeter and drilling through any interior concrete areas where termites are accessing from below. Drill holes are filled after treatment.
Modern slab construction with properly sealed plumbing penetrations and maintained concrete integrity provides good subterranean protection — but older slab homes (pre-1980) may have degraded concrete, failed plumbing seals, and long-term settlement cracks that create access.
Common Termite Issues in This Property Type
- Subterranean entry through foundation edge soil contact
- Mud tubes at plumbing penetrations in interior walls
- Drywood termites in any above-grade wood framing (not slab-related)

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Termidor treatment if I have a slab foundation?
Only if there are signs of subterranean activity or significant risk factors (old slab, known soil movement, adjacent moisture sources). Your inspection report will identify specific risk factors and recommend treatment only where warranted.
